Agricultural EICRsInspections for Farm & Rural Premises

Published April 2026  ·  5 min read

An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) records the safety and condition of your farm's fixed wiring. Agricultural environments are higher risk than many homes, and insurers often expect evidence of periodic inspection. This guide summarises what farmers in Shropshire should know.

Typical inspection intervals

HSE guidance commonly quoted for agricultural installations suggests inspection at least every three years — shorter than the five-year default for many commercial premises — because of moisture, dust, damage and livestock. Your report may recommend a different interval if conditions warrant it; always check your policy wording too.

What the inspection covers

The electrician will assess distribution equipment, earthing and bonding, wiring systems, accessories, RCD effectiveness where required, and suitability for the environment. Outbuildings, yards supplies and three-phase sub-distribution should be included in scope.

Observations and remedial work

Findings are coded (e.g. C1, C2, C3, FI). Items requiring urgent action must be addressed to reduce risk. We explain results in plain language and can quote for remedials. See also our broader farm electrical safety guide.
